Current Gallery: vierundzwanzig ( piece)
Vierundzwanzig (german for twenty-four) is a small series of prints each representing one day in mid June 2007. The aim of this project was to create a footprint of the light situation looking out of my appartment window and to make this process visible at one glance to find and depict interesting patterns. Therefore I installed a webcam looking out my appartment window that took one image every six seconds and stored them for later analysis. I then wrote a software to combine these images into a single one. This way a group of two prints was created which represent this particular day in one readable and one more abstract form. In the readable form, all images were scaled down, so that they form a continuous stream of time flowing from left to right and from top to bottom. In the more abstract variant, I compressed each image to a one-pixel line with the top on the left and the bottom on the right. All one-pixel lines are then aligned vertically forming a stream of time from the top to the bottom. With this technique interesting patterns are revealed, such as the long dusk compared to the short and instant dawn during the summer.
